When is Metamora Open?
Of all the questions this is the hardest to answer. Metamora consist of many different entities which sets it apart from other towns. There is a State Historic Site right down the center of town, a railroad through the center of town, businesses scattered throughout the town and yes residential homes.
The businesses in town set their own hours and they are not all the same. There are no laws telling a businesses owner when they must be open. We can't provide an exact number of shops open on a daily basis or the exact hours of business because many don't have set business hours. With that being said, you typically will find most shops and eateries open on weekends late May through Dec. Only a few shops are open during the week. If you want to know if a particular shop is open please contact them for their hours. The state facilities (Gristmill and Canal Boat) are open Wednesday - Sunday. The train operates on the weekends. You can get detailed information on the Visitors Information page.
There are a few amazing shops that stay open year-round as well as B&B's.
When is Canal Days?
Canal Days has been going on for over 40 years. It always starts the first Friday in October for 3 days (Fri - Sun).
I am looking for Canal Days space. Who do I contact?
Canal Days is sponsored by Historic Metamora Inc. They rent spaces along both sides of the canal and in the park. They only rent to vendors with handmade items or antiques. Click to go to their Website and Vendor Application . Do not contact them if you sell anything other than handmade or antiques.
Personal property owners and businesses also rent spaces. There isn't a list of these spaces since Historic Metamora doesn't control personal property owners. You must contact the property owner.
Where are the public restrooms?
There are three public restrooms in town. One on the west end of town, one on the east end of town by the firehouse and one located in the State building.
Where do I park?
There is free parking all along main street and in the lot in front of the gristmill. There is also free parking at the State Historic Site office building.
Plan to stay for the weekend. There are B&B's and Inn in Metamora as well as Hotels and Inns outside of Metamora. Check the lodging page for information.
