The two buildings east of the lodge were built in the 1850s and were Italianate in design. The center store was that of Mr. Van Camp's Drug Store which had the front blown out by a gasoline explosion in 1851. The third building is the Lucy Martindale Confectionery.
These three buildings make up a most interesting architectural arrangement in the village. They were built, one to another, in a wondering "old country" fashion to correct the front property line to Main Street. The total width from these stores to those on the north side of the canal is all platted as Main Street being 118 feet, 10 inches wide. The canal, railroad and old U.S. 52 all made up Main Street Metamora.
