Memorial Day Special Cermony |

annually since the Civil War. Held on the car bridge and Whitewater
Canal, this special ceremony includes flowers tossed into the canal, along with singing to honor and
remember the past and present soldiers. The oldest and longest running

24nd Annual Strawberry Daze |

June 5 - 6, Look for the
big Strawberry tent in the middle of town at the Historic Jonathan Banes House where you can enjoy an early
summer treat. Sweet strawberry shortcake loaded with yummy
strawberries and topped with whip cream or ice

"It's Twilight Time" |

June 19, “It’s Twilight Time!” 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. A special night of dinner, twilight cruise, wine tasting, and music. Spend a quiet evening with friends or a romantic evening with someone special. A three piece jazz group led by Pat O'Neal will be playing at the park. The general public will be served dinner from 5 to 7p.m. in the Gazebor park catered by the Whitewater Inn. You'll take a horse drawn carriage ride to the boat dock to Take a twilight cruise on the Ben Franklin III. Cruises are at 7:15 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. You'll enjoy the music of John Kogge playing acoustic guitar as you cruise the canal. After the cruise, particpants will take a horse drawn carriage to the gazebo area in the park and taste wines from Chateau Pomije Winery in New Alsace, IN and cheeses from the Amish Cheese Shoppe of Metamora. 4th of July
Celebration
Ducky Durby Winners |
|
Spend July 4th in Metamora.
Nowhere else on July 4th can you step back in time and shop in historical
buildings, ride a canal boat, ride a train and watch the stone-ground
cornmeal or flour being made at the gristmill as well as enjoy a day and
evening of fun filled events. The Fire Dept is having a firemens festival including chicken dinners, moon walk, dunking booth and beer garden throughout the day and music in the evening. Special music preformed on the Metamora Mill porch from 2:30 to 3:30 and 4:00 to 5:00. The Annual Parade begins at
6 p.m. This is an old fashioned parade unlike your typical parade. Who
knows what or who will be in it but it is sure to delight the young and old.
After the parade, go to the walking bridge for the annual Ducky Derby
Race. Make sure you purchase your duck and see if you can
win the grand prize! Ducks will be released into the canal after the parade
is over.
The first one to make it down the canal and cross the bridge at Columbia
Street wins! Ducks cost $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00. Games, activities and prizes for the kids. Grab your lawn chair and head to the
firehouse for a chicken Dinner and the the annual Fireworks Show at dusk.Sponsored by the

Indiana Heritage Festival |

July 17 - 18, Indiana Heritage Festival "A Voyage in Time: Life Along the Whitewater Canal". A weekend of historic demonstration, live music and a civil war re-enactors encampment throughout the town of Metamora. Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 12 noon to 4:00 p.m.
Performers: Shawnee Valley Dulcimer Society, Catrina and the Baggy Bottom Boys, Country Steppers Cloggers, Forget-Me-Not Dancers,
Story Teller: Sue Grizzell
Demonstrators: Whitewater Valley Wood Carvers, Whitewater Valley Blacksmiths, Pumprey Farm Sorghum Molasses and Produce, Whitewater Fiber Friends, Basket Making, Tin Smithing, Copper Smithing, Rug Hooking, Sewing demo, Master Gardeners from Franklin County, Candle making, The Ladder Man.
There will also be a story teller, a petting zoo and the Virginia Regiment Civil Ware Re-enactors encampment will make camp in the Metamora Grist Mill Park. Many of the demonstrators will be located at the Fire Department and selling their products. In conjunction with the Annual Metamora Music Festival, fFestivities will start at 10:00 AM with four departures of Flagg Coal Company Locomotive at 11:00 AM, 1:10 PM, 3:00 PM, and 5:00 PM. Along the way, remnants of the Whitewater Canal locks, the restored Laurel Feeder Dam, and portions of the West Fork of the Whitewater River can be clearly seen. Mr. Lincoln will be riding along with you as you travel along the scenic Whitewater Valley. Along the way, remnants of the Whitewater Canal locks, the restored Laurel Feeder Dam, and portions of the West Fork of the Whitewater River can clearly be seen. Ask the former president questions and have your photos taken to preserve the memories. Listen to one of the many speeches when the train arrives back in Metamora. Chili Cook-off |

Nov 6, - Come and dine on the many chili's prepared
at our annual chili cook-off. Rate your favorite chili for the peoples
choice award. Chili served at 12:00 p.m. at the firehouse. If you are interested in being a judge give us a call at 765-647-2109. Have a winning chili recipe? Enter

27th Annual Tree Lighting |

Nov 20, - Join us in the annual celebration of the start
of the Holiday Season. The tree lighting event will take place at the
Gazebo at 6:30. Gather around the bond fire as you listen to live
holiday music provided by our own "Baggy Bottom Boys", sing-a-longs, enjoy
the Christmas Story and warm up with free hot chocolate, coffee, and cookies

Friday & Saturday 10 a.m - 10 pm; Sunday 10 am to 5 pm. Extended hours for the Mill
Combine history, a
Currier and Ives scene and the pageantry of Christmas and you have the
Metamora Christmas Walk. Lanterns line the canal, luminaries light the
pathways and decorations are a plenty throughout the entire village. Sing
along with the strolling carolers as they sing holiday tunes. Visit Santa
and Mrs. Claus in their Santa House and get a memorable photo. Shop in the many unique shops.
The many festivities and unique shopping in this old fashioned town are a
part of a Christmas tradition that residents and visitors alike look forward
to year after year. Metamora Christmas Walk always begins the weekend after Thanksgiving. Sponsored by the Merchants Association of

Holiday Train Excersions |

Nov 26 - 27, Dec 4, Dec 11 Holiday Train Excersions Special holiday shopping excursions to Metamora are available in conjunction with Metamora's Annual Christmas Walk. Reservations must be made in advance. Early reservations are highly recommended, since these trains usually sell out very early due to the trains limited capacity. These trains have LIMITED CAPACITY and will SELL OUT.
Friday November 26 - 4pm departure with 3 1/4 hour layover.
Saturday November 27 - 4pm departure with 3 1/4 hour layover.
Saturday December 4 - 4pm departure with 3 1/4 hour layover.
Saturday December 11 - 4pm departure with 3 1/4 hour layover.

Most shops and attractions open May
through the last day of the Christmas Walk in December. A few shops are open
year round. Hour of business vary from
business to business. Metamora is an actual town not an amusement park so There is no set schedule. The state facilities are open Wed -
Sun. Because each shop is individually
owned there is no way to give a sure answer to how many or who will be open on any
given day. List of shops normally open in
the winter. |
